Opening Dharma Doors with Subtitles in Spanish and English
How It Started
How It's Going

This is a story of behind the scenes work that unlocks the Dharma for so many people. There are so many Dharma talks and videos already there in English, but without good subtitles they can stay out of reach for many people. And it’s not only about Spanish. When the English subtitles are accurate and in place for Sangharakshita's talks, they become the basis for translation into other languages too. So careful checking in English helps the Dharma move out much further, into different language areas.
It also connects with a much wider movement of Dharma activity in Spanish-speaking areas. Future Dharma supporters are also helping fund Order members visiting Guadalajara and Madrid, Dharma Bites sharing the Dharma with young people in Mexico in accessible ways, the Cintamani communications project helping new people come into contact with the Dharma. All of these projects are trying to open doors to the Dharma in different ways in. This subtitling work supports that whole field, because the people coming through those doors need good resources they can understand.
The work itself is very practical and quite detailed: listening, reading, checking the meaning, and making sure the subtitles are good enough to be used. It is the kind of work that can easily be invisible, but without it a lot of our shared Dharma resources cannot really travel. Donor generosity is helping more people meet the Dharma in their own language, and helping the teachings we already have reach the Spanish-speaking Sangha and beyond.
