Triratna Father's Group
How It Started
How It's Going

Over the years, Vishanka and the Father's Team have witnessed again and again the powerful effect of bringing fathers together in a Dharma context. There was a sense of isolation for some, and this group provided a way for people to reconcile the intensity of family life with their spiritual aspirations. This group provided a renewed sense of connection and confidence. Wanting more people across Triratna to know that this kind of support was available, the team approached Future Dharma for a grant to help create and print new posters, and to raise awareness of the group’s unique offerings.
That support has made a real difference. The improved advertising helped the Fathers’ Group reach men who may never have realised such a space existed for them. One of those men was Dec, who attended the July retreat and reflected on its impact:
“It is easy to feel alone and that your experience is singular. Being on retreat with other fathers, and those who have experienced what you are going through and the challenges to your practice, is deeply beneficial… The fathers’ retreats and community gave me the confidence that I can continue to deepen my Going for Refuge in asking for training for ordination.”
Today, the group warmly welcomes those with children in their lives — parents, carers, those with adult children or grandchildren — offering inspiration, friendship and support both online and in person. Thanks to the grant, more people now know that this group is here for them.
